Work With Me

In-person and virtual therapy

“Trauma” is anything that is too overwhelming for your brain to process.

Some of the messages, relationships, and events you experienced in your childhood might have been seen as “normal”— but if it was too overwhelming for your brain, then it fundamentally changed how you see the world.

Seeing the world through trauma-colored glasses affects how you view your own self-worth.

This can mean that your basic human need to belong can come out sideways in the form of harmful relationships and leave you feeling worthless, inadequate, “crazy,” and dependent.

…and that can make life pretty messy and confusing.

Your body’s response to your trauma is what helped you survive your childhood, but it will not help you thrive as you move forward.

Mindfulness tools like yoga and meditation are helpful for a body and mind under stress, but if they’re not connected to a process of identifying and healing from your past, they’ll never help you write a new story.

With a more holistic approach to counseling, you can begin to move past fight, flight, and freeze and towards new creative and freeing patterns for your life.

In our work together we approach your past with imagination, play, and creativity—because sometimes that’s just what your brain needs to see your life in a new way.

From the moment you walk into my office, slip off your shoes (take an office tour), and get comfy on the couch, you’ll begin to see yourself, and your experiences, through a different lense…

Maybe it will be my “magic wand” to help you reframe your past, a nature walk to clear your mind, guided writing practice to discover new ideas and thoughts, EMDR exercises, or a short session of relaxing yoga…

You’ll find yourself breathing deeper, thinking clearer, and making informed, aligned decisions.

Frequently asked questions:

How much does therapy cost?

Individual In-Office and Online Sessions
$185 + for initial intake and assessment (90 minutes)
$180 + for 90-minute sessions
$240 + for 120-minute sessions
Please inquire about EMDR Intensives.
I offer a limited number of discounted therapy slots to those experiencing financial hardship.  If my fee does not make therapy accessible to you, please ask me about reduced rates.

Do you take insurance?

I do not accept health insurance in my private practice. Insurance limits our work together as it requires a diagnosis that may or may not be helpful to your treatment. My clients enjoy the flexibility, anonymity, and full confidentiality that out of pocket payments provide.

What if I can’t afford therapy?

I understand that not everyone is able to afford to pay out of pocket for my services. For this reason, I maintain a limited number of financial hardship slots. Please, do not hesitate to ask me about my reduced rate.
You may be able to pay for therapy out of your pre-tax income using an HSA or FSA account.

What is tele therapy and does it actually work?

Teletherapy is the exact same as in-person therapy only we meet virtually instead of in my office!

Working both in-office and online means that we can work together in the same physical space or miles apart. Offering online therapy allows for a great deal of flexibility allowing you to balance your busy lifestyle with maintaining your health.

The therapy location you choose comes down to your personal preference and lifestyle as online therapy has been shown as effective as in-office therapy. Here are some reasons why people may consider online therapy as an option for treatment:

Online therapy allows for convenient appointment times that fit into your busy schedule. We can meet during your lunch break or on your day off without you having to take extra time off or leave your work or home.

No driving to the therapy office. Online counseling removes the hassle and stress of commuting to and from your therapy appointment. No more traffic, bad weather, etc. I am all about helping you create a less stressful environment.
The comfort of meeting in a space that is yours, that you’ve designed or are familiar with. Because we meet online, you get to decide where you do your therapy sessions.

What is Love Addiction?

Individuals struggling with love addiction are in desperate need to feel emotionally connected and secure. Underlying this condition is a basic need for connection.

The ground rules for seeking attention in the form of love is generally established in the attachment style formed during childhood. If individuals have a less then optimal secure attachment to their caregivers it transfers into the ability to form healthy relationships as an adult. Instead of fundamentally knowing one’s self-worth the attention is directed to others to meet that need. Read more here…

How long will I need therapy?

The frequency and session length of therapy depend upon your individual situation. Generally, a client starts out with weekly or bi-weekly intensive 90-minute sessions to work on addressing symptoms and returning to stability in life.
Depending on your needs and treatment progress, the treatment frequency is reduced to bi-monthly sessions, later monthly, and lastly check-up sessions as needed. Because therapy is an individualized process, your unique situation will determine the length and frequency of therapy.
