I am so glad you are here! People usually come to my page because they want relief and are ready to try something different. 

In my work as a trauma and PTSD expert, I help you understand how the impact of trauma may have taken over your life and how you can move towards feeling whole. 

By providing an experiential approach along with advanced psychotherapy (e.g. EMDR, complex developmental trauma, attachment theory, ego states, somatic experiencing, yoga-CBT), together we will:

  • Uncover what is holding you back from showing up as your best self and integrating your life experiences so they can inform your life rather than take over 
  • Find ways to manage and alleviate symptoms such as anxiety, depression, and other trauma symptoms leading you back to feeling grounded and present

Ilona Schenk-Cherry

I am a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) and Licensed Mental Health Professional – Supervisee (LMHP-S), licensed in Virginia. I specialize in working with adults around concerns of primary and secondary trauma/PTSD, sexual abuse, childhood abuse, childhood trauma, anxiety, stress, self-confidence, life-transitions, birth trauma, pregnancy, relationships, and careers. I offer individual in-office and tele-mental health through an online secure platform in Richmond, VA and anywhere in Virginia.

How We’ll Get There

I am here to offer a safe space and to honor the risk you take in sharing your story with me: to honor your past and validate your experience. I will help you to move out of your isolation and to reclaim your voice. I will never push you to share anything you’re not ready to say out loud, however. I understand the risk you’re taking in revealing your experience to me while working towards healing.

Together, we will look at how you have been managing your pain and seek relief from anxiety, depression, trauma symptoms, attachment wounds, and grief. We will develop a system that will allow you to grow into the person you want to be by increasing your insight into your situation, relationships, limiting beliefs, and ineffective coping mechanisms. Together, we can process your trauma so your mind and body no longer go into overdrive.

I will provide you with the education to help you understand how your past can manifest in your feelings and behavior long after an initial experience. Through working together, your situation will become clearer—you can stop feeling like you are losing it.

You are not your symptoms—you are so much more, and through therapy, you will strengthen your understanding of your experience and express your real feelings so you can move forward.
